Who We’re Looking For ・Planning shooting and Editing content ・Photo and video editing skills ・Comfortable communicating on camera ・Video production skills (shooting and editing) ・Social media design skills ・Strong writing and communication skills ・English: Native-level fluency ・Japanese: Advanced level (able to communicate with Japanese staff in business settings) WAKO, a Hiroshima-based company, operates Joy in Hiroshima, an English-language, hyper-local web magazine about Hiroshima. We provide curated information on places to eat, shop, and experience Hiroshima for inbound and active travelers. We also share in-depth travel stories from locals. We know the city better than any itinerant travel writer or social media creator because all our staff and contributors live and work in Hiroshima. We are particularly looking for writers who are comfortable communicating in Japanese and can provide authentic insights from a traveler’s perspective. ~Compensation~ Base rate: ¥5 per word Typical article length: 500–1,000 words Estimated pay per assignment: ¥2,500–¥5,000 Assignments may include not only written articles, but also content creation for Instagram, YouTube, and other social media platforms. Photo / Video Requirements +¥5,000 bonus for published photos and videos Minimum of 5 photos and one approximately 30-second video per assignment Additional Coverage Transportation costs for assignments fully covered (within reason) Food expenses during coverage reimbursed up to ¥3,000 Process & Conditions After acceptance, you will be assigned one paid trial assignment at the standard rate. Continued participation will be determined based on the quality of your work. Depending on the project, assignments may include: Article writing Instagram content creation YouTube video production Social media content planning and editing In addition to written content, contributors are required to submit: At least 5 photos (smartphone photos acceptable, no editing required) One approximately 30-second video clip ~Process & Conditions~ After acceptance, you will be assigned one paid trial assignment at the standard rate. Copyright of all submitted articles, photos, videos, and other content will belong to WAKO Hiroshima. Content guidelines will be provided after acceptance. After successfully completing the trial assignment, you will receive additional assignments that can be completed at your own pace before the deadline. Contributors are also welcome to pitch their own story or content ideas for additional work. Freelancers are responsible for declaring and paying their own taxes. You are personally responsible for ensuring that you hold an appropriate visa for freelance content creation work in Japan. ※Creators who perform well may also be considered for future part-time, semi-full-time, or full-time opportunities.
