SMS Integrated Design Engineering Chief Engineer

Boeing Space Mission Systems (SMS) is seeking a Chief Engineer who will act as the technical authority for the Integrated Design Engineering (IDE) capability in El Segundo, California. In this role you will lead a team of subject matter experts to ensure technical integrity across a broad range of spacecraft products including electrical, mechanical, and RF components and subsystems. Accountabilities for this position also include resolution of hardware anomalies as well as root cause, containment and corrective action (RCCA) implementation throughout the product lifecycle. This position reports to the Director of the SMS Integrated Design Engineering capability and acts as the IDE technical representative at key design, safety and quality review boards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Product Chief Engineers and Technical Leads to ensure technical integrity, consistency, and readiness across structures, propulsion, power, harnesses, thermal, antenna systems, and passive microwave devices

  • Oversee and prioritize anomaly response including containment, root cause analysis, corrective action definition, verification, and closure

  • Collaborate across SMS program CEs, Mission Assurance, Quality, Manufacturing, and adjacent capabilities to resolve technical and production issues

  • Maintain and drive RCCA processes and continuous improvement in problem solving (BPSM, Fishbone, etc.)

  • Provide technical authority for qualification, flight-worthiness decisions, and readiness for shipment, fueling, containerization, and launch

  • Represent IDE leadership at design reviews, Safety & Quality Review Boards, consent meetings, ERAs, and IRTs

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • Level 6: Typically, 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.

  • 20+ years of engineering experience including spacecraft design, analysis, manufacturing and operations, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated experience with Boeing, government or industry hardware development and qualification standards

  • Experience with application of anomaly resolution approaches such as RCCA (Root Cause, Containment, Corrective Action), “Fishbone”, and/or the BPSM (Boeing Problem Solving Method)

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience leading technical teams and coordinating across programs, organizations and skills

  • Experience with on-orbit anomaly resolution and verification of corrective actions.

  • Strong stakeholder communication skills and history of representing technical positions at cross-functional review boards

Senior Level 6 Summary pay range: $ 210,800 - $ 285,200
