Dawson Mine

Steelmaking Coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.

Dawson Mine, located near Moura, is only a 2-hour drive from Rockhampton & Gladstone. It is a large and dynamic open cut steelmaking coal mine operation made up of two operating pits - Central and South. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland with no signs of slowing down. Dawson Mine is rich in history, it was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and was the first mine to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963 – join the legacy today!

Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Mining Coordinator that will oversee production south operations at our open-cut coal mine at Dawson Mine. Reporting into the Mining Superintendent, you will demonstrate a drive for safety as well as strong interpersonal and leadership skills. As an experienced Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing and leading a team of Mining Supervisors to ensure operational production standards are met.

The Mining Coordinator will support the Mining Superintendents and Operations Manager with mining activities, including planning activities to ensure that overburden stripping and coal mining activities are undertaken in a safe, cost effective and efficient manner in line with agreed operational standards and targets. You will effectively plan, monitor and coordinate personnel, equipment and resources to achieve Dawson’s set targets and schedules.

The Mining Coordinator will also be required to build and maintain a proactive safety culture in the Operations team including delivering and attending toolbox talks, hazard awareness, education and training; and make recommendations while striving to continuously improve both safety and operational objectives of the mine.

Qualifications

Relevant skills, knowledge and experience required for this role include:

  • To be successful in the role, you will have demonstrated supervisory experience overseeing a large operational team within an open-cut mining environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with Truck, Shovel and Excavator operations and a working knowledge of relevant Coal Mining legislation.
  • Hold the Supervisor & Risk Facilitator competencies (S1, 2, 3 & G2).
  • OCE ticket (Certificate IV in Surface Coal Mining) is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Trainer & Assessor certification is desirable.
  • Strong computer literacy and reporting capabilities.
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills to influence both site senior leadership and the workforce reporting under you.
