Arafura Swamp Rangers Aboriginal Corporation (ASRAC) is a Yolŋu‑owned organisation working under the direction of Traditional Owners to care for the Arafura Swamp Indigenous Protected Area (IPA). The Arafura Swamp is one of northern Australia’s most significant wetlands, surrounded by a 12,000 km² catchment extending from Castlereagh Bay to the upper Goyder Rivers. With an unbroken history of Aboriginal ownership and management, the region is home to Yolŋu and Bi people who continue to maintain cultural responsibilities for land and water.

ASRAC delivers land and sea management, cultural heritage protection, and sustainable enterprise. A key enterprise is the on‑Country saltwater crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) hatchery and grow‑out facility at the Ramingining ranger base, where rangers collect eggs, incubate, hatch, and raise juveniles for on-sale. This enterprise supports local employment and contributes to healthy country outcomes.

About the Role:

ASRAC is seeking a practical, hands‑on leader to coordinate the crocodile rearing facility and support general base operations. The Crocodile Facility & Base Team Coordinator will work closely with ranger teams to collect eggs, incubate and hatch crocodiles, raise juveniles, and maintain the facility and equipment. The position also oversees day‑to‑day base operations, including infrastructure upkeep, grounds maintenance, and general support to ranger teams.

This role suits someone who enjoys mentoring others, thrives in remote environments but also is happy at base, is confident with troubleshooting and maintenance, and can plan and work independently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support rangers in all crocodile facility operations, including wild egg collection, incubation, hatching, raising juveniles, sourcing feral animals for feed, and maintaining equipment and infrastructure.
  • Supervise rangers undertaking general base operations such as weed control, rubbish collection, and infrastructure cleaning and maintenance.
  • Coordinate servicing and maintenance of plant, equipment, and infrastructure to ensure safe, efficient operations.
  • Manage facility in procurement, consumables, compliance requirements (including farming and wastewater licensing), record keeping, and general facility administration.
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental (HS&E) compliance, including training workers in safe procedures and maintaining safety documentation.
  • Mentor and upskill Yolŋu and Bininj staff, supporting learning and long‑term capability development.

About You:

Essentials:

  • Experience in related field, such as land management, agriculture, animal husbandry, remote enterprise, or a trade;
  • Practical capability in maintaining plant and equipment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring and training staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with competency in Microsoft Office.
  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel in light aircraft.
  • Eligibility to obtain an NT Firearms Licence and Working With Children Clearance .
