Senior Urban Planner

A well‑established town planning and land development consultancy based in Cairns is seeking an experienced Senior Town Planner to support a strong and diverse pipeline of projects across Far North Queensland. This role suits a planner who is confident working directly with clients, applying sound professional judgement and delivering practical, high‑quality planning outcomes in a consulting environment.

The Senior Town Planner will manage planning matters end‑to‑end across residential, commercial, tourism and subdivision projects, working closely with statutory authorities and internal team members. The role also provides the opportunity to mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, office‑based team culture that values local knowledge, straightforward advice and hands‑on project involvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and assessing development applications, subdivisions and approvals management
  • Preparing high‑quality planning reports, submissions and written advice
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients and consultants
  • Liaising with local and state government authorities to facilitate approvals
  • Contributing professional judgement to problem‑solving and project delivery
  • Supporting and mentoring junior planners as required

About You:

  • Degree qualified in Town Planning, Urban and Regional Planning.
  • Typically 4+ years’ experience in a role requiring client engagement, independent judgement and problem‑solving (private consultancy or statutory environment)
  • Strong understanding of Queensland planning legislation
  • Confident communicator with a practical, solutions‑focused approach
  • Organised, reliable and comfortable managing multiple projects concurrently
