Here, your voice and ideas matter, your work makes an impact, and together, you will help us define the future of American Express.

How will you make an impact in this role?

The vision for the Colleague Experience Group (CEG) at American Express is to provide the best colleague experience to fuel growth. We’ll achieve this by attracting, developing, and engaging a future-ready workforce and delivering a differentiated value proposition that enables all colleagues to be and deliver their best.

Talent Acquisition (TA) sources and hires top talent for American Express around the world. The function, with approximately 500 colleagues, supports early career, experienced, and executive hiring, as well as our New to Blue onboarding experience.

The Manager Assistant (MA) – serving as Chief of Staff to the VP, Talent Acquisition – is a strategic and high-impact role. This individual will act as a trusted advisor and thought partner to the VP and TA Leadership Team, helping shape priorities, challenge thinking, and translate vision into action.

This role requires a strong strategic and analytical thinker who can bring structure to complexity, anticipate needs, connect dots across the enterprise, and influence outcomes without direct authority. The MA will operate as a critical partner to leadership — driving alignment, elevating decision quality, and ensuring the function executes with focus and impact. The role also owns executive communications, budget governance, colleague engagement, and oversight of annual performance and compensation processes. This is a highly visible position with broad exposure across the Colleague Experience Group (CEG), business leaders, and key enterprise partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Advisory & Executive Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor and sounding board to the VP, helping refine priorities, pressure-test decisions, and ensure alignment to enterprise objectives.

  • Partner with the TA Leadership Team to translate strategy into clear roadmaps, measurable goals, and executable plans.

  • Anticipate risks, identify opportunities, and provide proactive recommendations to drive business performance.

Executive Office & Operational Leadership

  • Lead and manage day-to-day business priorities for the VP’s Executive Office, ensuring focus on the highest-impact initiatives.

  • Drive preparation and follow-through for leadership engagements, ensuring disciplined execution and accountability.

  • Oversee and govern the TA budget, including annual projections, expense management, headcount planning, and risk mitigation.

Communication & Influence

  • Craft compelling executive-level presentations, speeches, and communications that clearly articulate strategy, progress, and impact.

  • Shape narratives that inspire confidence, drive engagement, and reinforce alignment across the function.

  • Lead TA Leadership Team meetings, Town Halls, and Strategic Planning sessions to ensure productive dialogue, decision clarity, and strong follow-through.

Talent & Engagement Leadership

  • Oversee the talent management process for the function, including performance and compensation cycles.

  • Actively gather and synthesize colleague sentiment through deep networking and stakeholder engagement to inform leadership decisions.

  • Support colleague engagement initiatives that strengthen culture, connectivity, and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated project management, organization and planning skills applied in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.

  • Proven ability to collaborate and build strong positive relationships with key stakeholders at all levels.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel) and using AI to create compelling visual presentations for executive-facing audiences.

  • Proven decision making and problem-solving capabilities with strong follow-up skills.

  • Ability to learn quickly and work autonomously with strong attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical and financial acumen.

  • Ability to deal with issues and subject matter in ways that require considerable sensitivity, discretion and judgment.

  • Proven proficiency in HR processes and disciplines is preferred.

  • Practical consulting experience and relationship management experience is a plus.

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the UK is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
