Sr. Principal Performance Engineer (Database & AI Benchmarking)

EDB is hiring a Principal Performance Engineer to establish performance as a core company competency across database and AI workloads. This is a 100% remote position for candidates based in EU/UK. Responsibilities: - Design and execute repeatable end-to-end benchmarks for database and AI workloads - Evaluate database performance including throughput, latency, concurrency, scalability, and stability across OLTP/OLAP and mixed workloads - Measure and optimize AI performance for GPU/CPU inference pipelines, model serving, and data/feature pipelines - Develop benchmarking harnesses, scripts, dashboards, and reproducible environments - Produce performance reports, identify bottlenecks, and recommend fixes - Partner with database engineers, AI engineers, field teams, and product management to define performance goals - Establish standards for test hygiene, statistical rigor, hardware normalization, and benchmark governance Required Qualifications: - 8+ years in performance engineering, benchmarking, SRE, or systems engineering (database and/or AI systems) - Strong understanding of performance concepts: latency percentiles, tail behavior, throughput, concurrency, queueing, saturation, capacity planning - Strong understanding of database internals (Postgres or equivalent) - Hands-on experience benchmarking databases and distributed systems - Experience with benchmarking tools (pgbench, HammerDB, TPC-like workloads) - Proficient in Python and/or Go for automation and data analysis - Strong scripting skills (Bash), eBPF experience - Linux performance profiling experience (perf, flamegraphs, strace, iostat, vmstat) - Ability to communicate findings and drive performance improvements Preferred Qualifications: - Active benchmarking techniques experience - Vector database and vector search benchmarking experience - PostgreSQL performance tuning expertise - RAG pipeline experience - AI stack components familiarity - Storage and networking performance background EDB provides a data and AI platform for PostgreSQL workloads across any cloud.
