Farm Manager Western Australia

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands on Irrigation Farm Manager to lead irrigation and crop performance on a large scale, high production fruit farm in Western Australia.

The role is suited to an experienced commercial farmer, ideally from South Africa, who has managed high value fruit operations under demanding climatic conditions. .

The successful candidate must understand that irrigation is not just about running systems. It is about reading the crop, understanding plant physiology, and making informed decisions based on heat, wind, evapotranspiration and soil conditions.

Experience with stone fruit, citrus and especially berries is essential.

Irrigation & Water Strategy

• Develop and manage irrigation programs aligned with crop stage and production targets
• Adjust irrigation proactively during heatwaves, high wind events and extreme temperature fluctuations
• Monitor soil moisture, plant stress indicators and weather data
• Manage fertigation programs to support optimal plant nutrition
• Oversee pumps, filtration systems, drip irrigation, pivots and automation systems
• Ensure efficient water use and compliance with Australian water regulations

Crop Performance & Production

• Apply strong knowledge of plant physiology and crop water requirements
• Identify early signs of stress, nutrient imbalance or disease
• Work closely with agronomists and senior management to maximise yield and fruit quality
• Maintain high production standards across stone fruit, citrus or berry operations
• Support harvest planning and seasonal workforce coordination

Leadership & Operations

• Supervise irrigation teams and general farm staff
• Train staff in irrigation best practice and system maintenance
• Maintain detailed irrigation and production records
• Uphold workplace health and safety standards

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience managing irrigation on large commercial fruit farms
• Experience with stone fruit, citrus and preferably large scale berry production
• Strong understanding of crop response to environmental stress, particularly heat and wind
• Practical mechanical knowledge of irrigation infrastructure
• Ability to interpret climate data and adjust irrigation strategy accordingly
• Experience working in dryland or semi arid environments similar to Western Australia
• Strong leadership capability

International Candidate Requirements

• Extensive commercial farming experience in South Africa or comparable environments
• Ability and willingness to relocate to Western Australia
• English proficiency suitable for workplace communication
• Eligibility to meet Australian skilled migration or employer sponsored visa requirements
