Cryogenic Systems Engineer – Quantum Computing

Sydney, Australia
By agreement
Sydney, AustraliaFull-timeProFound People

Description (EN)

This role is based in Sydney, Australia, and relocation will be required. The company will sponsor work visa sponsorship and a relocation allowance for suitable candidates.

The Opportunity

ProFound People is partnering with a well-funded, world-leading pioneer in quantum technology. While many companies are decades away from commercial viability, our client is delivering quantum advantage today. They are the first globally to manufacture qubits with atomic precision, and their proprietary hardware is already accelerating AI and generating significant revenue through multinational partnerships.

Sydney, Australia

Sydney is rapidly becoming one of the most significant deep-tech and quantum ecosystems on the planet. Beyond the lab, Sydney offers an unmatched standard of living. From a world-class climate and iconic beaches to a thriving culinary scene and robust healthcare and education systems, it is a city that provides a phenomenal backdrop for both your personal life and a career-defining technical challenge.

About the Role

None of this groundbreaking technology works without world-class cryogenics. As a Cryogenic Systems Engineer, you will own the systems-level integration of our client's cryogenic infrastructure.

This is not a narrow design role. You will sit at the intersection of architecture, requirements, engineering execution, and physical build. Working closely with quantum engineers, RF specialists, fabrication teams, and external partners, you will ensure these vital systems are designed properly, built correctly, and delivered on time.

You will help define what “good” looks like for next-generation cryogenic platforms, translate that into clear requirements, and stay close to the hardware through assembly and commissioning. This is hands-on, high-accountability engineering in a deep-tech environment where performance margins are razor-thin and details matter.

Role Responsibilities

  • Drive the integration of cryogenic infrastructure across quantum, mechanical, thermal, electrical, and RF domains.
  • Gather, define, and document system requirements, interfaces, and constraints in collaboration with multidisciplinary engineers.
  • Identify and manage technical risks across design, manufacture, and operation.
  • Contribute to the architecture of next-generation cryogenic platforms aligned to specific quantum device needs.
  • Support the research and development of cryogenic solutions tailored to the hardware roadmap.
  • Work directly with cryogenic engineers during build, assembly, and test phases.
  • Interface with internal engineering teams and external vendors to ensure timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Support validation, commissioning, and operational optimization of cryogenic systems.
  • Drive continuous improvement in system reliability, thermal performance, and maintainability.

Your Experience

  • Demonstrated operational experience with cryogenic systems in research or industry.
  • Strong background in systems engineering, including requirements definition and interface management.
  • Experience in cryogenic system design and integration, ideally across multidisciplinary environments.
  • Practical experience with thermal modelling and performance analysis.
  • Understanding of radio frequency systems operating at cryogenic temperatures.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical needs into structured, documented system requirements.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, assembly, and commissioning of complex hardware systems.
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a lab or advanced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in quantum, semiconductor, advanced physics, or deep-tech environments is highly regarded.

The Recruitment Process

The process for this role will consist of 3-4 interviews. You will meet key members of the technical team, focusing first on core technical alignment, followed by a deeper dive into your specific skills and values. We will provide a comprehensive run-through of the process for candidates who progress to the first interview stage.
