IB PYP Homeroom Teacher (Grades 1–5) Yokohama | IB World School ---------- "CGK International School in Yokohama offering a 12+4-Year Continuum Education" CGK is the only integrated international school in Yokohama with April enrollment. More than 300 students, from 2 years old through middle school, currently attend the school, and CGK is planning to open a high school in 2028. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, PYP authorized and an MYP candidate school, CGK provides a world-class, future-oriented education that nurtures independent, reflective, and lifelong learners. We believe that strong IB learning communities are built by highly professional educators who bring subject expertise, collaboration, and a shared commitment to student-centered learning. [Position Overview] CGK is seeking a qualified and experienced homeroom teacher for our international elementary school, teaching Grades 1 to 5. This position is suited to a multi-subject educator who is able to teach core subjects such as mathematics, science, and social studies through English, while aligning instruction with the IB PYP framework. The homeroom teacher plays a central role in supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development during the elementary years. We place strong importance on prior PYP experience or a clear understanding of IB philosophy, as elementary homeroom teachers are key contributors to the development and implementation of the Programme of Inquiry. [Key Responsibilities] The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with the IB PYP curriculum across multiple subject areas. Homeroom teachers collaborate closely with grade-level and specialist teachers to develop, review, and refine the Programme of Inquiry. Responsibilities include assessment design, marking and grading, and the completion of required records, termly progress reports, and assessment documentation, in line with school expectations and IB practices. Teachers are also expected to contribute to school-wide initiatives, including school events and parent-teacher conferences, and to foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment. [Job Description] Applicants must - Demonstrate strong enthusiasm for teaching and learning - Collaborate effectively and professionally with colleagues - Show openness to new challenges and a commitment to continuous improvement - Possess native-level or near-native English proficiency - Be qualified to teach at the elementary level Additional responsibilities include - Teaching students in Grades 1 to 5 as a homeroom teacher - Teaching most subjects including mathematics, science, and social studies - Planning and delivering lessons aligned with the IB PYP framework - Maintaining accurate marking and grading in line with school and IB expectations - Completing required records, termly progress reports, and assessment documentation - Practicing global education and IB education in daily teaching - Collaborating with colleagues on the Programme of Inquiry, school events, and parent-teacher conferences Required Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree or higher (required for visa sponsorship) - Teaching qualification in education (degree and/or teaching license) - Prior experience teaching elementary school-aged students - Experience with the IB PYP is strongly preferred - Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills - Eligibility for visa sponsorship under Japanese immigration regulations [Why Join CGK] Successful candidates will play an important role in the continued growth of CGK and in shaping a rigorous, forward-looking IB learning environment where students, families, and staff can thrive. [Type of Employment] Full-time (contract employee for the first year) [Working Hours] - 8 hours per day between 7:00 and 17:00 on weekdays (shift work) - All workdays include a one-hour break and preparation time. - Any overtime work will be paid. - There will be occasional Saturday or Sunday workdays for events. A replacement day off will be arranged. [Benefits and Welfare] - Paid vacations (77% paid vacation utilization rate, 2023) - Maternity and paternity leave utilization rate: Female 100%, Male 100% - Commuting allowance: Actual expenses (up to 30,000 yen/month) - Short-distance allowance: If the commuting allowance is less than 15,000 yen, 15,000 yen is paid as a combination of the commuting allowance and the short-distance allowance. - Salary increase: Once a year - Social insurance (unemployment insurance, workers' compensation insurance, health insurance, and employee pension) - Employee Discount: Full-time employees of CGK are entitled to an employee discount when enrolling their children in CGK. (e.g., no registration fee or tuition) - IB and in service training - Visa sponsorship [Holidays / Vacations] - 2 days off / week (Sat/Sun, national holidays) *May need to work on holidays a few times a year for events, etc. (Compensatory days off provided). - Approx. 150 days off / year - G.W. vacation: approx. 1 week - Summer vacation: approx. 2 weeks - Fall break: approx. 1 week - Winter vacation: approx. 2 weeks - Spring vacation: approx. 1 week - 10 paid vacation days/year (after 6 months of consecutive employment) + 1 for each additional year [Working Location] Kannai campus: 2-25-2 Minaminakadori, Naka-ku, Yokohama (Greater Tokyo) - 4-minute walk from Bashamichi Station (馬車道駅) and a 5-minute walk from Nihon-ōdōri Station (日本大通り駅) on the Minatomirai Line (directly to/from the connecting with the Tokyu Tōyoko Line and Fukutoshin Line) - 5-minute walk from Kannai Station (関内駅) on the Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line - 7-minute walk from Kannai Station (関内駅) on the JR Keihin-Tōhoku Line *Excellent location with easy access to Minatomirai, Sakuragicho, Chinatown, Yokohama Station, and Tokyo [Finally] We welcome applications from dedicated subject educators who value professionalism, collaboration, and meaningful learning, and who wish to grow within an IB school over the long term.
