Description (EN)
Borderlink is hiring Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs)!
As an ALT, you won't just be teaching grammar and vocabulary, you'll be co-leading vibrant, activity-filled classes alongside local Japanese teachers. But the true magic of being an ALT happens beyond the classroom. It’s found in the shared moments and memories you will make at your schools- the conversations at lunch, the experiences in school clubs, and the authentic cultural exchanges that transform a standard teaching job into the adventure of a lifetime.
Whether you’re applying from abroad or you’re already living in Japan and searching for a fresh start, the opportunity to teach next generation starts right here. Read on to discover the exciting paths that lie ahead.
🌎 Applying from Overseas 🌎
Overseas applicants interested in joining Borderlink are encouraged to apply now for April 2027 positions. Successful candidates will receive guidance throughout the process, including visa applications and pre-arrival preparations.
🗾 Applying from Japan 🗾
Applicants currently living in Japan with a valid residence or work visa are welcome to apply for current and upcoming openings. Priority may be given to those with ALT experience, a Japanese driver’s license, or flexibility to relocate. Part-time positions are also available in select locations.
🌸 Why Choose the ALT Life 🌸
⭐️ Enjoy balance as your schedule runs Monday through Friday between 7:45 am and 6:00 pm, leaving your evenings, weekends, national holidays, and school vacations free.
⭐️ Immerse yourself in real classroom teaching within the public school system. This is a unique opportunity not available in every English teaching position.
⭐️ Work alongside Japanese teachers and learn how to adapt to different teaching styles and learning levels.
⭐️ Grow personally and professionally throughout the school year as you experience Japanese school life and work culture.
⭐️ Become a positive figure in the lives of your students, with the possibility of working in elementary and junior high schools, and even at the kindergarten and senior high school level.
⚠️ Requirements ⚠️
⭕ University graduate holding a bachelor's degree or higher.
⭕ Completed at least 12 years of education where English was the primary language of instruction for all of your classes.
※ Both of these are required for visa sponsorship and are non-negotiable. However, you do not need to be from a native English-speaking country to apply. As long as you have completed 12 years of English-medium education (e.g., international school, bilingual education, or study abroad), you are eligible to join us as an ALT.
[Desirable Qualities]
- Prior teaching experience with young learners (especially experience in Japan)
- ESL-related certificate (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, etc)
- Valid driver's license and willing to drive in Japan
- Conversational-level Japanese speaking/listening skills
