Job Description – IGCSE & IBDP Economics Teacher Position: Economics Teacher (IGCSE & IBDP) Location: Global Indian International School (GIIS), Higashi Kasai Campus, Tokyo, Japan Employment Type: Full-Time Position Summary The Economics Teacher will be responsible for delivering engaging, inquiry-based Economics lessons to students in the Cambridge IGCSE and IB Diploma Programme. The successful candidate will foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and real-world economic understanding while preparing students for outstanding examination outcomes. Key Responsibilities Teaching & Learning ● Teach Economics across IGCSE and IBDP (SL & HL) in accordance with the respective curriculum frameworks. ● Design and deliver engaging, student-centered, and differentiated lessons. ● Develop students' analytical, quantitative, and evaluation skills through inquiry-based learning. ● Integrate contemporary global economic issues and current affairs into classroom instruction. ● Utilize technology effectively to enhance teaching and learning experiences. ● Promote independent learning, collaboration, and academic integrity. Assessment & Reporting ● Develop and administer formative and summative assessments aligned with curriculum standards. ● Prepare students for IGCSE and IB external examinations. ● Assess Internal Assessments (IAs) and provide guidance to IBDP students in accordance with IB requirements. ● Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide timely feedback. ● Prepare student reports and participate in parent-teacher conferences. Curriculum Development ● Contribute to curriculum planning, review, and continuous improvement. ● Develop high-quality teaching resources and assessment materials. ● Participate in departmental planning meetings and professional learning communities. ● Stay current with developments in Economics education, IB, and Cambridge curriculum updates. Student Development ● Serve as a mentor or homeroom teacher as assigned. ● Support students' academic, social, and emotional well-being. ● Encourage participation in Economics competitions, Model United Nations (MUN), business challenges, and other enrichment activities. ● Foster an inclusive, respectful, and internationally minded learning environment. School Contribution ● Participate in school events, open houses, orientations, and extracurricular activities. ● Collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and school leadership. ● Uphold GIIS policies, safeguarding procedures, and professional standards. ● Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute positively to the school community. Qualifications ● Bachelor's degree in Economics, Commerce, Business, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). ● Recognized teaching qualification (B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent). ● IBDP Economics teaching experience is highly desirable. ● Cambridge IGCSE Economics teaching experience is preferred. ● Strong understanding of inquiry-based and student-centered pedagogical approaches. ● Excellent classroom management and communication skills. ● High level of English proficiency (spoken and written). Experience ● Minimum 3–5 years of teaching experience in an international school. ● Demonstrated success in preparing students for IGCSE and/or IBDP Economics examinations. ● Experience with IB Internal Assessments and Extended Essay supervision is an advantage. ● Familiarity with digital learning platforms and educational technology.
