About the opportunity
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Behavioural Researcher, with demonstrated skills in qualitative research,to join the Australian Type 1 Diabetes National Screening Research Program, a landmark public health research initiative focused on the early detection of type 1 diabetes in children.
This role has a strong focus on engaging with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, with children and families from across Australia’s rich multicultural population being at the centre of the research.
Working closely with the Principal Investigator, Research Manager and research team at the Charles Perkins Centre, as well as a national multidisciplinary network of researchers, clinicians, and stakeholders, you will contribute to research that aims to transform early detection, care pathways and health outcomes for type 1 diabetes in Australia. The role will focus on public health screening for children, specifically type 1 diabetes. Knowledge and experience in type 1 diabetes is an advantage but not essential (training can be provided). The role would suit someone with an interest and experience in behavioural science, community engagement and/or other public health areas e.g. health literacy, newborn screening, childhood immunisations.
Your key responsibilities will be to:

conduct qualitative research in Australian families, with a strong emphasis on culturally diverse communities

contribute to quantitative research activities related to screening, population health, and program evaluation

support the design and delivery of qualitative and behavioural research components of externally funded projects

engage meaningfully with culturally diverse communities to support recruitment, co-design, and dissemination activities, ensuring research approaches are culturally safe, inclusive, and responsive to community needs

work collaboratively with national research, clinical and community stakeholders

contribute to publications, reports, conference presentations, and competitive grant activity
About you
-
hold a PhD in behavioural science, public health, health sciences, or a related discipline

demonstrate proficiency in qualitative research methods, with experience in quantitative research desirable

have experience or strong interest in research involving culturally diverse communities as well as children and young families

demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary research and clinical teams

show interest in developing expertise in type 1 diabetes screening and public health research (training can be provided)

have the capability and motivation to grow into a lead role supporting our research initiatives in culturally diverse communities
