About the role
As a Professor, you will provide academic leadership within the University in poultry science and production within the framework of UNE's new Strategy 2026-2035. You will have an outstanding research and leadership profile and a deep understanding of the global poultry industry, particularly in Australia. A key feature of the role is providing leadership and inspiration to a diverse team of academics, postdocs, technical staff, and postgraduate students. You will be responsible for the development and securing of industry-supported research and training grants. The role includes the specific leadership and transitioning of the Poultry Hub Australia (PHA) into the Faculty as a new centre for poultry research and training, focusing on industry-oriented research and outreach (nutrition, health, welfare, biosecurity, and environmental impacts).
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A PhD in an area relevant to poultry science or production, preferably in poultry nutrition or feed science
- A strong record of research excellence, exemplified by innovation, grant funding success, publications, and supervision of research students.
- Deep knowledge of the poultry and allied industries, preferably with experience working within these industries and a commitment to supporting rural and regional communities.
- Demonstrated high-level management skills, including budgetary control and the ability to effectively supervise and build diverse teams.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication and leadership skills, with the capacity to influence, consult, and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders in a collegial manner.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead appropriate and ethical use and adoption of technology, including generative artificial intelligence, in an academic context.
About the School
The School of Environmental and Rural Science (ERS) is a research-intensive School that attracts external competitive funding. The School spans six disciplines: Agronomy and Soil Science, Animal Science, Zoology, Botany, Earth Sciences and Ecosystem Management. The Faculty of Science, Agriculture, Business, and Law is an innovative collaboration designed to deliver cutting-edge education and real-world learning, consisting of over 700 staff and postgraduate students with international reach.
