Description (EN)

Dematic is looking for a recognised intralogistics and warehouse automation expert to help shape how emerging technology is applied within complete customer solutions around the world.

This is the highest level of technical expertise within our Solution Design career path. As a Principal Consultant, you will be expected to do more than contribute to an established design. You will originate new solution approaches, determine whether they are technically and commercially feasible, and lead them from an initial idea through validation and successful introduction to the market.

You will work with a specific area of automation technology, but this is not a product development role. Your focus will be the entire customer solution: how the technology can be combined with other automation, software and operational processes to create more flexible, agile and competitive solutions.

Your recommendations will influence global solution strategy and will be examined closely by senior technical, commercial and operational stakeholders. You must therefore be able to present a well-supported position, anticipate potential objections and defend your recommendations with evidence.

We offer:

  • Career Development
  • Competitive Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay Transparency
  • Global Opportunities

Learn More Here:https://www.dematic.com/en-us/about/careers/what-we-offer/.

The base range of this role, at the time of posting, is estimated to be the following should this role be filled in the respective country:

Italy: €74,125 to €102,850 (Compensation will be aligned with the applicable National Collective Labour Agreement, namely the CBA „Metalmeccanico Industria“)

Lithuania: €57,375 to €84,150

Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as work location, education, experience, knowledge, and skills.

Tasks and Qualifications:

What you will do:

  • Own the development of innovative automation solutions that respond to customer, operational and market needs.
  • Analyse customer data, business requirements, operational flows and constraints to establish clear design criteria.
  • Determine where the relevant technology can be applied within wider intralogistics solutions, rather than treating it as a standalone product.
  • Assess the technical, operational and commercial feasibility of new solution concepts before the business commits to them.
  • Create and compare alternative concepts, considering performance, scalability, flexibility, integration, risk, cost and customer value.
  • Lead decisions on fundamental design principles and the selection of technologies used within the solution.
  • Define solution architectures incorporating modules, multi-technology assemblies, software and third-party capabilities.
  • Develop conceptual layouts, material-flow designs, operating descriptions and other documentation that clearly explains how the solution will work.
  • Lead simulation and testing activities to validate assumptions, performance and operational feasibility.
  • Identify potential design challenges, integration risks and objections early, developing evidence-based responses and mitigation plans.
  • Lead technical design reviews and present recommendations to senior stakeholders, customers and subject matter experts.
  • Identify gaps in the existing portfolio and provide clear recommendations on development, partnership, make-or-buy and technology requirements.
  • Define requirements for Product Development while remaining accountable for the integrity of the overall customer solution.
  • Establish repeatable design principles, methods and guidance that can be applied consistently across regions.
  • Share expertise with Solution Development, Sales, Engineering and other global teams, raising technical capability across the organisation.

Essential Experience:

  • Extensive experience within warehouse automation, material handling, intralogistics or a directly comparable sector.
  • A demonstrable record of operating as a technical or solution-design subject matter expert.
  • Proven ownership of new automation solutions, from identifying the opportunity and developing the concept through validation, stakeholder approval and introduction to the market.
  • Evidence that you personally led the solution rather than participating only as one member of a larger project team.
  • Expert understanding of how automation technologies interact within an end-to-end customer solution, including relevant mechanical, controls, software and operational considerations.
  • Strong experience analysing customer and operational data and translating it into design criteria and technically credible solutions.
  • Experience evaluating emerging or developing technologies and determining whether they can be applied safely, effectively and commercially within customer environments.
  • A strong understanding of solution feasibility, system integration, operational performance, risk and return on investment.
  • Experience leading technical design reviews and defending complex recommendations before informed and challenging audiences.
  • The ability to anticipate technical, operational and commercial objections and address them before presenting a recommendation.
  • Experience influencing decisions across international, cross-functional organisations without relying on direct authority.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to senior, technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A degree, HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Mathematics, Science or a related discipline, or equivalent expertise gained through substantial relevant experience.

Your work will influence how emerging automation capabilities are incorporated into complete customer solutions, helping Dematic create approaches that are scalable, adaptable and supported by robust technical evidence. Success will not be measured by the volume of concepts produced, but by the quality, feasibility and long-term value of the solutions you lead.
