Working in Australia
Possible country route: Skills in Demand (subclass 482). The employer-sponsored Skills in Demand route has stream, nomination, occupation and applicant requirements. It replaced the earlier TSS route for new applications.
Processing differs by stream and application circumstances. Check the current Home Affairs processing-time tool; employer nomination adds its own steps.
What to check before applying
- Confirm the sponsor and stream. Ask which 482 stream and occupation the employer intends to nominate.
- Check current requirements. Review qualifications, English, salary and any skills assessment on Home Affairs.
- Coordinate nomination and application. Keep the employer nomination and applicant visa steps distinct.
Reviewed 2026-10-14. Country routes are context, not a confirmation that this vacancy or your passport qualifies.

About This Opportunity
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Research Project Officer to provide high-level administrative and research support for the Student Experience Suite, an innovative teaching and research project funded by a UQ Teaching Innovation Grant and centred on enhancing the student experience. Within this project, a new platform will be piloted with students across nine courses and student-facing units in five faculties. Working collaboratively with academic staff, students and external partners, you will support the project from planning through to evaluation and dissemination, helping turn evidence, diverse perspectives and practical insights into meaningful outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, tracking milestones and deliverables and preparing high-quality project reports.
- Support project-specific research and analysis, including environmental scanning, data collection and analysis, and contribute to briefs, reports and evidence-informed recommendations.
- Run the student focus groups and interviews, and act as one of the reviewers in the project’s welfare process on a duty roster, reading student messages flagged for welfare or crisis concerns before they are referred to UQ support services.
- Build collaborative relationships with students, academic and professional staff and external partners, communicating project information clearly and supporting meaningful stakeholder participation.
- Provide high-level project and administrative support to the Program Lead and project groups, including correspondence, meetings, committee support, documentation, records and project-related events.
About You
- A degree in psychology, education, social science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.
- Experience supporting human research administration, including consent processes and ethics compliance.
- Demonstrated project coordination experience spanning planning, implementation, monitoring, reporting and the coordination of activities and deliverables.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing demands and meet deadlines in a dynamic project environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing high-quality reports, meeting documentation and communication materials for varied audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective, collaborative working relationships with diverse stakeholders, including students, academic and professional staff and external partners.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the initiative, sound judgement and discretion required to handle sensitive personal information appropriately, and the interpersonal skills to work with distressed or reluctant participants.
