Working in Australia

Possible country route: Skills in Demand (subclass 482). The employer-sponsored Skills in Demand route has stream, nomination, occupation and applicant requirements. It replaced the earlier TSS route for new applications.

Processing differs by stream and application circumstances. Check the current Home Affairs processing-time tool; employer nomination adds its own steps.

What to check before applying
  1. Confirm the sponsor and stream. Ask which 482 stream and occupation the employer intends to nominate.
  2. Check current requirements. Review qualifications, English, salary and any skills assessment on Home Affairs.
  3. Coordinate nomination and application. Keep the employer nomination and applicant visa steps distinct.

This is an opportunity for a technically strong structural engineer who enjoys balancing detailed engineering design with field-based structural integrity and asset assessment work. You'll work across a diverse portfolio of mining and heavy industrial projects while helping drive the growth of WSP's structural integrity capability throughout Queensland.

  • Lead structural engineering and structural integrity projects across mining and heavy industrial assets.
  • Deliver structural inspections, integrity assessments, condition evaluations, and remediation recommendations.
  • Undertake concept, detailed, and brownfield design of mining infrastructure and processing facilities.
  • Provide technical leadership for steel and concrete structures, materials handling systems, and fixed plant infrastructure.
  • Develop remediation strategies and life extension solutions for ageing assets.
  • Build strong relationships with mining clients across Queensland and identify opportunities for continued growth.
  • Support proposals, business development activities, and strategic client engagement.
  • Mentor and develop structural engineers across the team.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver integrated solutions.

About you:

We're interested in experienced engineers who bring a combination of technical expertise, consulting capability, and commercial awareness.

You'll likely have:

  • Degree qualifications in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • RPEQ or eligibility to obtain RPEQ registration.
  • Extensive experience within mining, resources, heavy industry, or asset-intensive environments.
  • Strong background in structural engineering design of steel and concrete structures.
  • Experience undertaking structural inspections, integrity assessments, and remedial engineering.
  • Knowledge of Australian structural design standards.
  • Experience working directly with operational mining assets and brownfield environments.
  • Strong client engagement and business development skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management capability.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing technical teams.

Why WSP?

  • A growing structural integrity and asset management portfolio.
  • Flexible work arrangements that support work-life balance.
  • Opportunities to lead technical excellence and influence business growth.
  • Career development pathways into senior leadership and technical specialist roles.
  • Local expertise backed by a national and global mining network.
  • A collaborative culture where innovation, curiosity, and technical excellence are valued.

Join WSP and help our clients improve the safety, reliability, and performance of critical mining infrastructure while growing a market-leading structural integrity capability across Queensland.
