Frequently Asked Questions

How does a work visa for Saudi Arabia work?

The employer requests the work visa and, after you arrive, applies for your residence permit (iqama). Private-sector work permits and contracts run through Qiwa, the platform of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development. Check the ministry's site for the current rules.

Do nurses and doctors need a licence in Saudi Arabia?

Yes. The practice licence comes from the Ministry of Health, and it requires registration with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS), which classifies and registers practitioners on its Mumaris Plus portal. Registration asks non-Saudis for a residence permit, so it is completed after arrival.

Do engineers need to register?

Yes. Under the Engineering Professions Practice Law, engineers need professional accreditation from the Saudi Council of Engineers, and employers may not hire engineers without it. Ask the employer whether they arrange it.
