Amazon is committed to reaching net-zero carbon by 2040, and Amazon Japan is looking for a self-driven and strategic Package Program Manager to help achieve this goal within the JCFS (Japan Customer Fulfillment Solutions) team in Tokyo. In the Customer Packaging Experience (CPEX) organization, you will plan and run packaging programs that reduce shipment volume and delivery cost, expand simplified shipping, and advance sustainability — working effectively with internal teams and external partners. With the rapid growth of same-day grocery (food and daily-goods) e-commerce services, we need to strengthen packaging programs and project management for the unique products and delivery formats these new businesses require. This position has been newly created to reinforce project management capacity as these grocery delivery services expand.
As a Package Program Manager, you will identify cost-reduction opportunities from large internal datasets (using tools such as SQL and Excel) and from on-site verification, propose the highest-priority packaging programs to leadership, and own them from planning through implementation. You will clarify business requirements for package size, type, and cost; introduce optimal packaging based on actual shipment data; consolidate the range of packaging in use; and reduce per-shipment cost — all while understanding the end-to-end flow from fulfillment centers through sortation and delivery stations to final-mile delivery.
Because packaging-reduction initiatives do not always improve operational productivity, you will balance dialogue, active listening, clear proposals, logical thinking, and change management to co-design the right operations and process improvements, building trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders. Not everything goes as planned, so you are expected to solve unexpected problems and ask for support when needed. Your results will be shared with Japan and global leadership through regular business reviews. The CPEX mission is to delight customers by advancing packaging innovations that reduce waste, cost, and carbon emissions. The Package PM team plans and executes packaging programs that reduce shipment volume and delivery cost, expand simplified shipping (sending orders in the product’s own box without extra Amazon packaging), and advance carbon and plastic reduction. Success depends on close collaboration with internal teams (fulfillment and delivery operations, supply chain, finance, procurement, customer service, and sales) and external partners (vendors, marketplace sellers, logistics providers, and packaging suppliers).
• Work closely with engineers and business stakeholders to clarify requirements for packaging programs and present proposals to Amazon Japan leadership. • Build execution plans for packaging solutions using data and metrics, engage stakeholders and leadership to obtain approval, and launch projects. • Implement projects with company-wide stakeholders across operations, transportation, supply chain, customer service, finance, and sales, and provide clear, timely reporting of key performance metrics to internal and external stakeholders. • Report to the CPEX Manager within JCFS, while serving as a point of contact for packaging and technology teams in Japan and across global regions.
