Established Portfolio Business Manager, Gulf
Job Description
The Established Portfolio Business Manager supports delivery of AstraZeneca’s Established Portfolio across the Gulf. Reporting to the Director Trade and Distribution, Gulf, the role works in close partnership with the relevant Franchise Head(s), who own strategic direction for the assigned brands and portfolio.
The role co-develops the integrated portfolio plan, translates approved strategy into clear priorities and partner requirements, and drives AstraZeneca’s operating rhythm, performance follow-up and cross-functional coordination. The role co-owns business outcomes with the Franchise Head within agreed decision rights.
Typical Accountabilities
Portfolio planning and strategic execution
• Co-develop the integrated Established Portfolio plan with the Franchise Head(s), translating approved brand and franchise strategy into portfolio priorities, milestones and partner expectations.
• Coordinate implementation of approved lifecycle, geographic and portfolio-expansion initiatives, including readiness across relevant AZ functions and the partner.
• Prepare analysis and recommendations on opportunities, risks, trade-offs and resource needs for decision by the Franchise Head, Director Trade and Distribution and relevant governance bodies.
• Maintain a clear portfolio narrative and ensure strategic decisions are reflected in operating plans and governance forums.
Performance and financial management
• Drive the monthly operating rhythm and support quarterly business reviews with the partner using agreed commercial and financial indicators.
• Monitor performance against the approved business case and targets; identify gaps, challenge partner responses, track agreed actions and escalate material or unresolved deviations.
• Coordinate portfolio inputs to PB, RBU and MTP cycles with input from the Franchise Head(s), Finance and relevant functions.
• Prepare or coordinate business cases for approved expansion opportunities, pricing actions and material changes to the commercial model.
Partner governance and delivery follow-up
• Act as AstraZeneca’s day-to-day business contact for the partner within the governance model established for the specific partner and assigned portfolio.
• Translate approved priorities and contractual obligations into clear partner deliverables, KPIs, information requirements and timelines.
• Maintain the integrated action, decision and risk log; follow actions to closure and coordinate matters requiring AZ review or approval.
• Monitor partner capability and delivery through agreed evidence and reporting, without directing partner employees, vendors, deployment or day-to-day operations.
Brand and commercial coordination
• Work with Franchise Leads to ensure approved strategy, positioning and lifecycle priorities are reflected in partner plans.
• Review partner plans and proposed tactics for alignment, and route materials or activities through required AZ review and approval processes.
• Monitor customer coverage, execution outcomes and use of approved materials through agreed reporting; require the partner to address identified gaps.
• Coordinate AZ-provided onboarding requirements and approved product or brand content. The partner remains responsible for training, supervising and certifying its personnel, except where AZ has a defined mandatory obligation.
Forecasting, supply and inventory oversight
• Coordinate AZ review of partner forecasts and ESF submissions using available sales, consumption and inventory information.
• Work with Supply Chain to identify product-availability risks and support AZ supply planning based on the partner’s timely and accurate inputs.
• Do not assume ownership of downstream stock, expiry management, account-level inventory or operational demand planning assigned to the partner.
Pricing, access, tender and risk coordination
• Coordinate pricing, access and tender inputs with the Franchise Head(s) and accountable AZ functions, and prepare required business cases and approvals for reserved decisions.
• Monitor the portfolio impact of partner-led account schemes. The partner remains responsible for designing, negotiating, approving and funding such schemes within the contract and applicable law.
• Maintain visibility, with accountable AZ functions, of registrations, renewals, variations, artwork, labelling, pharmacovigilance and other MAH-related requirements.
• Monitor evidence of the partner’s completion of contractually required compliance, adverse-event reporting, pharmacovigilance and product training, and escalate gaps.
• Provide facilitation for activities reserved for Medical, Regulatory Affairs, Patient Safety, Compliance, Legal, Finance or other accountable functions.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
• Typically 8-10 years of pharmaceutical commercial experience, including exposure to a multi-brand business, portfolio or franchise.
• Strong commercial and financial acumen, including forecasting, business-case development and performance analysis.
• Ability to translate strategy into executable plans and influence cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
• Fluency in regulatory affairs and pricing governance
• Influence without authority through credible, insight-based advice
• Strong understanding of sales, consumption, market, forecast, inventory and financial performance indicators.
• Strategic thinking that balances delivery and long-term brand health
• Strong communication, judgement, structured follow-up and disciplined escalation.
